Create and apply your MOTD
- Enter a name and a short description. The server list shows two MOTD lines; use the second for a game mode or a useful detail.
- Insert formatting codes and keep the text readable. The preview is approximate: it does not reproduce the client font or the complete server-list interface.
- For server.properties, select that output and replace the existing motd property. Back up the file first, then restart your server.
- If a plugin manages your MOTD, choose the text output and check which codes its documentation supports. Test it with the edition and version your server accepts.
Classic colors and output formats
§a and &a mean green in fields that parse classic formatting codes. §l enables bold and §r resets formatting. Not every field accepts & directly; the server.properties output converts it and escapes characters.
This editor does not parse MiniMessage tags or RGB colors. For gradient text, use the gradient generator and check which format your plugin accepts.
Help players understand your server
Your MOTD complements the server listing: make the game mode, rules, language and connection details clear there. Avoid advertising modes or versions that are not yet available.
